In looking at DIAGRAMMING the exiting programs versus what we would like to add in PROGRAMMING we broke the larger programs into small, broader categories. We found that we could CATEGORIZE all parts of the programming under Exercise, Entertainment, and Education. Under CSEA's existing Youth Literacy Program we added catergories of Youth Programs in Education and Exercise; such as, Art Classes, GALLERY Space, Dance, Sports, Summer Camps and learning Traditional Skills. We used the same technique in each of the three existing programs, also adding a new program of Growth (CONTINUING Education). While creating a 2D diagram of our space we also started looking at how their would be overlaps in categories throughout each program. Our 3D diagram explains how each of the different programs could/would overlap throughout the existing space. The existing program lies underneath operations while out new additions to PROGRAMMING overlaps and domes about the space creating overlap.
We use four cardboard each represents one new program (including youth program, culture, continuing education and community) to create a ring shape insert a black board, which is the operation. And the parts they connect are the overlap parts between two programs. As for the bridges above, are the connections between the opposite programs. In addition to the parts underneath the operation, are the existing programs relating to the new programs. In this concept model we aim to show the relationship between each tow new programs and emphasis the overlap parts. The second concept model is the improvement of the first one. In this model, each rectangular represents a new program. And the length and width are the number of parts in new and existing programs, as well as the height is the amount number of the parts. They insert to each other with the same parts and the bottom view shows the overlap parts.
in this program model, we use blue, green and yellow to represent three levels (as for public, semi-private and private). Each block stands for a space with different surface the different material showing different programs. The same surface will touch each other. And the operation is still the plastic material with two levels, which means it controls the whole center space. Therefore, the mean circulation goes to lobby, community room, exercise, extra lobby (serves for the different open time of library and gallery and summer camp), summer camp, library and gallery, classroom and back to lobby. We make the library and gallery with the shape of stairs and slope means that it is the connection between public and private. And we want to use the stairs to be the garden, which is the similar shape of the traditional Southeast Asian garden. And the front of it stretching out to the same line of the neighbor building makes the CESA more attractive.
In the final model we keep most of the space arrangement from the program model with the exception of combining exercise and summer camp together and move the classroom to the top of library and gallery. We use most of the existing structure which we use black board. As for the FACADE, we choose bamboo and glass as the mean material. From the lobby, people can get to the community room, offices, conference room and library and gallery at first floor and also can go up to the open space above the community room and the offices, conference room and classroom at second floor. From the open space at second floor, people can also enter into the roof garden. In addition to the back lobby, people can arrive to the summer camp and library and gallery. Therefore, different people for different aims can have different circulations. So we choose the library and gallery for our detailed space. As for the exterior, we randomly make several windows around the stairs inside and each window focuses on a certain view to the interior. And the vertical parts of the roof stairs are glass, so the interior space can get more natural light. We make several different levels with stairs and ramps to create space with couches. Along to these spaces is the learning room. And we make two long shelf stairs to connect the library gallery to the classroom upstairs.
